Over thirty years ago, this innovative company began supplying the local businesses with grill replacement parts, which lead to quite a revelation: In the lower elevations the salt air in shortens the life span of standard residential grills. They noticed that the condominium managers were buying the same parts time after time, and quite frequently.
Taking into account that the grills are used 365 days a year, by a multitude of guests, this could be expected, but after further investigation it became apparent that the average lifetime for a grill was less than two years.
Many of HI 's customers are in the commercial condominium market. To meet the special needs of this market, they soon garnered the cooperation of the grill manufacturers in providing limited warrantees and/or concessions that allow the grills to be an asset to the condominiums, instead of a liability. Given the fact that the specialty grills are of far better construction and materials to start with, they are now holding up far better than in the past. HI Hearth & Leisure has over a thousand grills in hard service.
HI. Hearth & Leisure is in constant contact with the condominium managers and owners, and the excellent customer service includes direct mailers and phone contact every 30-40 days - instrumental in receiving feedback regarding the life span of individual parts. In turn, this allows them to forecast their needs of their grill replacement parts to the benefit of their customers.
The company has also carried the best quality fireplaces and woodstoves.
In Hawaii's consumer grill market, the ubiquitous hibachi has provided everybody an opportunity for an inexpensive cookout at the beach, tailgate party or picnic. Due to the many opportunities provided by Hawaii's balmy weather, backyard grilling has always been part of the culture and activities. The many inexpensive charcoal and gas barbecues have progressed into grills that are capable of smoking, cooking sauces on side burners, and rotisserie cooking. This has turned grills into outdoor kitchens, rather than a way to cook quick and easy finger food on a bun or a skewer.

of the grill market are the high end products, and of
these, gas grills are predominant. These are the "Ultimate
Grills", built far heavier and of better construction with
materials that are not subject to corrosion. Further, they offer
a wide range of options and features enhancing the possibilities
for the gourmet cook and outdoor chef. Pacific Gas
Specialties has worked individually with HI Hearth & Leisure
to develop their line of high quality residential grills, especially
the K-40, meant to withstand the ravages of the 'rusty' Hawaiian
climate. This is the only grill that has been
evolutionarily developed through the relationship between condo
managers, a retailer and a manufacturer. This is one tough grill!
